2021.11.27 16:59 beatNick_ Axioms Or Faith?
Axioms mean “true without needing proof”. Is this not what faith is? - The idea that me accepting something as true without proof, is different than something mathematically is true without proof, makes no sense. Without the proof, how could you possibly make such a distinction?
So what is the deal against belief systems? - Mathematical subjects themselves are based entirely on their own set of axioms, their own belief system.
If I apply the axioms correctly to properly prove a theorem, and then I apply the theorem in reality by doing the math correctly, to get desirable outcomes, then the math works! - Why is this not the accepted attitude towards other belief systems? If they are done correctly then they work. But just like with math, if you don’t do it correctly the “answer” can be disastrous.
Are axioms accepted without proof?
Answer By Alan Bustany - Socratic Inquirer, Mathematician:
Yes, but there is no (rigorous logical deductive) proof without axioms, so how could it be otherwise?
Axioms basically define the universe of mathematical discourse such as Euclidean Geometry, Natural number Arithmetic, Set Theory or the like. The motivation used to be, and sometimes still is, things which were "obviously true", but contradictory axioms leading to non-Euclidean Geometry, non-standard Arithmetic, or an entire ontology of Set Theories have made these "truths" distinctly less obvious.
So axioms are now technically assumptions, although they are assumptions usually chosen for their "interesting" consequences. Less interesting assumptions simply get ignored over time.
Mathematics as with other belief systems are symbol worlds.
“It is we alone who have devised cause, sequence, for-each-other, relativity, constraint, number, law, freedom, motive, and purpose; and when we project and mix this symbol world into things as if it existed ‘in itself,’ we act once more as we have always acted—mythologically.” - Nietzsche
It is not the truth that matters, but the value added to life by an idea.
“The falseness of a judgment is for us not necessarily an objection to a judgment; in this respect our new language may sound strangest. The question is to what extent it is life-promoting, life-preserving, species-preserving, perhaps even species-cultivating.” - Nietzsche

2021.11.27 16:59 elle-ay-ay A Different Constellation?
I am new to this game but on my first playthrough of Two Crowns I noticed a constellation shaped like an envelope. I thought the idea of constellations was pretty cool, and avoided the impulse to look it up on the internet so I could enjoy figuring out the game. Now that I am looking into it, I only see conversations talking about the Crown Stealer constellation.
Has anyone else seen this?? I can't be the only one. And yes I am fairly sure it was an envelope. I regret I did not think to get a picture of it. I even stared long and hard at the Crown Stealer constellation to see if it in any way along its progression looked similarly to what I saw but no, I am CERTAIN I saw an envelope!

2021.11.27 16:59 Phrogrammer Cooler master hyper 212 not fitting on MSI Z690! Help!
Hey everyone, so today I went out and got a new mobo and CPU and when I went to install the cooler, 3 of the 4 mounts line up, but the 4th and final one is off by just a little bit. I remember having a lot of trouble installing this cooler on a previous build, but it wasn’t this bad.
Any suggestions? The board says it’s compatible with the cooler…
Am I missing something here?
I have a stock intel cooler but I’m upgrading to an i5-12600k and I doubt that’s enough for it.
